4 reasons to pop over to Sweden
4 reasons to pop over to Sweden
Explore the Swedish grocery stores. Bring back traditional Swedish tunnbröd (flat bread), chocolate or sockerdricka (drink). Finns like to buy baking equipment from Sweden as their selection is great. And by the way, when you buy fruit, the cashier will weigh it for you unlike in Finland.
Venture into villages on both sides of the river! There are many of them and they all have their unique features. Go exploring! As soon as you cross the border to Sweden you can see differences: in Sweden they like to decorate houses more than in Finland. I wonder what kind of awning the next house has…? Which garden has the funniest gnomes or the flashiest lights?
Make a trip from Pello to the charming Aapua Byabutik (village store). Travel on the gravel road off the main road 99. This gravel road is a valuable cultural heritage site. There are several lay-bys where you take a break and also see a summer barn that represents the local cultural heritage.
Go second hand shopping at a loppis! In summer people have yard sales. If it says ‘LOPPIS’ go in and you might make nice finds!
Our Lapland is rather nice as you don’t have to make big plans to go abroad. Just cross the bridge and pop over to Sweden!
