At the southern end of the Tornio River Valley, the twin city of Tornio and Haparanda form a unique cross-border destination where Finland and Sweden meet in everyday life.

Övertorneå (Matarengi), Sweden

Located just across the river from Ylitornio, Övertorneå – or Matarengi as it is locally known – is part of the shared cultural landscape of the Tornio River Valley.

Pajala, Sweden

Further north along the river, Pajala is known for its wide open landscapes, quiet nature and strong Tornedalen identity. This is a place where you can experience authentic life close to nature – with forests, rivers and open skies all around you. Pajala offers a sense of space and stillness that is increasingly rare. Pajala is known for its many events such as Pajala marknad in July.

Enontekiö & Kilpisjärvi, Finland
